The project aims to promote change and education in the world’s global water and sanitation crisis. The unique collaborative pack will release at 7PM on February 11th, 2011. Limited to 65 pieces total and only available on the Akomplice and Good Wood NYC websites. The collaboration package (retail $69.99) consists of an exclusive track from Chace Infinite which is a flip on D’Angelo’s song “Africa,” a handcrafted box set containing an intricately carved Africa necklace from Good Wood, and an original t-shirt from the fellas at Akomplice. 100% of the package’s profits will be donated to Pump Aid, an organization which has developed a cost-efficient water pump for sustainable water production in impoverished African communities. Akomplice’s Africa t-shirt will also be offered alone later this month. The T-shirt will be available in red, white, green and black. The design features a text-formed image of Africa on its front, enumerating sociopolitical issues affecting the continent; its back is brandished by each collaborator and reads “Donate 2 Africa.” The shirt is more than a fashion statement – it represents courage, cohesion, and change. It is a tangible symbol of this project’s support for Africa.

DJ's were original, they had their own sound, they actually cut and scratched, and they didnt just stack songs in a row and call it a "mix" CD, well maybe DJ Clue did. Way back when, there were only a handfuls of DJ's really doing their thing. Dudes like Tony Touch, Ron G, Kool Kirk, R&R, DJ S&S, and even DJ clue. You couldnt wait to get your hands on their new shit. Nowadays, like the rest of hip hop, the mixtape circuit is over saturated with low budget DJ's making garbage mixes in their basements. Not to say the whole game has gone to shit, but its definitly declined since the golden era. So for all the people who need a reminder what a "real" Mix Cd is. Peep Tony Touch's Power Cypha Box Set. This a 3 volume, 6 disk set, with over 150 MC's rhyming over 200 classic beats. This is one of my favorite hip hop creations ever. This is a true hip hop classic. Hosted by The Roots’ own Black Thought, WAKE UP! RADIO pays tribute to the legacy of soul music that paved the way for WAKE UP! and imagines a world where mainstream radio transmits music with a message. Employing an all-star cast of musical contemporaries (including John Legend & The Roots themselves), J.Period dissects, remixes and rebuilds the original recording sessions from the WAKE UP! album in an unprecedented manner, defying the conventional wisdom of what a “mixtape” can be—producing a full-fledged remix album in the process. The result is a treasure trove of powerful new music, produced and remixed exclusively by J.Period for WAKE UP! RADIO.

Scheduled for release today, February 10, 2011 , WAKE UP! RADIO will be offered as aFREE DOWNLOAD in celebration of WAKE UP!’s 5 Grammy nominations, and will also be available as a Limited Edition gift-bag giveaway at The Roots’ Grammy Jam on Saturday, February 12 in Los Angeles, CA—consistently one of the hottest tickets on a weekend overflowing with events. Adding to the historic nature of this mixtape release, J.Period will also release an exclusive Digital 12” on Tuesday, February 15, featuring a history-making collaboration between John Legend, Black Thought of The Roots, and hip hop luminary, Rakim. The track, entitled “In the Ghetto (Wake Up!)”, produced by J.Period, is an homage to the Eric B. & Rakim classic “In The Ghetto”—which hearkens back to a time when hip hop and social messages went hand in hand.

RADIO include Common, Q-Tip, Late Night host Jimmy Fallon, Nigerian songstress Nneka, Somali sensation K’NAAN, rising star Blu, Def Poet Mayda Del Valle and more, in addition to never-before-heard music from Black Thought and John Legend.
