Never Forget: A Journey Of Revelations

Cornel West & BMWMB [2007]
Never Forget: A Journey Of Revelations

"Dr. Cornel West, one of America's most prominent black intellectuals, has teamed up with Hidden Beach Recordings to produce one of the most important and socially-conscious music projects to be released in 2007. On the heels of the Don Imus controversy, topical debates on the political and sociological effects regarding the use of the N Word and America's searching for answers to the question "Now What?" all are addressed in the context of this CD. This compelling body of work features Cornel West as a conductor who orchestrates a symphony of hip-hop and r&b recording artists and producers in the delivery of a resounding message that offers music as a positive force to effect change, awareness and solidarity.

Never Forget: A Journey of Revelations is a riveting, thought-compelling approach to raise the consciousness of the mainstream music consumer through a positive lyrical approach. It exemplifies a level of love, unity, solidarity, and loyalty designed to the give the world a force of good in the form of music, especially Black music, in these bleak times. "

(((Leon))) Ware colloborated with Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson on this score to a socially aware and well respected film for its time. If you like Leon Ware's smooth soul sound you'll enjoy this album. The best funk moment is to be found on "The Rumble", a strong orchestral funk track

YABBY YOU - DELIVER ME FROM MY ENEMIES

Yabby You : " Deliver me from my enemies"1977

Yabby You isn't the biggest name in roots reggae, but as an artist and producer he generated a body of work that measures up well next to the work of giants like Burning Spear, the Abyssinians, and Culture. Born Vivian Jackson, Yabby was in his twenties when he first took to the producer's chair at Channel One Studios and cut the deep roots trilogy of Conquering Lion, Walls of Jerusalem, and Deliver Me from My Enemies, a formidable set of albums that established his decidedly sparse and rhythmically steady sound. .

Track list:
1-Deliver Me From My Enemies
2-Judgement Time
3-Blood Ago Run Down King Street
4-Love In Zimba
5-Zion Gate
6-Everlasting Life
7-Lonely Me
8-Take My Hand (Aka Stranger In Love)
9-Pound Get A Blow
10-Pick The Beam
11-And Amlak (One God)
12-Economical Crisis

Yabby You - Jesus Dread 1972-1977
Label: Blood And Fire, 1997
Record date: 1972-77
Album style: Deejay, Dub, Instrumental, Lee Library, Roots, Tubby, Vocals

b. Vivian Jackson, 14 June 1949, Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Yabby acquired his nickname from the drawn-out, chanting refrain on his 1972 debut single, "Conquering Lion": "Be You, Yabby Yabby You". Despite courting controversy in his repudiation of Rastafarian godhead Haile Selassie, in favour of a personalized form of Christianity, his output throughout the 70s and early 80s nonetheless rarely deviated far from the orthodox Rastafarianism typically expressed at the time. As leader of the Prophets (additional personnel at various times included Alric Forbes, Dada Smith, Bobby Melody and the Ralph Brothers), Yabby recorded a remarkable series of roots reggae classics, including "Jah Vengeance", "Run Come Rally", "Love Thy Neighbours", "Valley Of Jehosaphat", "Judgement On The Land", "Fire In Kingston", "Chant Down Babylon' and many others, mostly appearing on his own Vivian Jackson and Prophets labels in Jamaica. ~reggaetrain.com

One of the most crucial B&F compilations, if also one of the most obsessive - no less than five versions of 'Jah Vengeance', for instance, follow the original at the close of the first CD. This is one reason why it's so great though - few other collections give you the chance to see rhythms evolving into so many amazingly diverse and subtle new forms, especially in Tubby's hands. Dillinger's version of the Vengeance rhythm, 'Freshly', is probably the deepest bit of dub Tubby ever produced, absolute genius and well worth the admission price by itself. ~discogs.com

Stone Love Rawkus 2008 Promo - mixed by Billy Slaughter

PumpCast #20 - Stone Love Rawkus 2008 Promo - mixed by Billy Slaughter

If this promo mix by Billy Slaughter of Stone Love is any indication of how the music will be at Rawkus (on March 29th 2008 at Zanzibar), then the party freaks can prepare and brace themselves for a full course musical treat. As Slaughter goes through a library of Stone Love anthems in this 30+ minute, he makes it clear to avid listeners that it just a promo mix. In his unique trademark voice he asked “oonu think this is mix cd… no is a promo”. If you want to hear Stone love in legendary form, then make sure you are at Rawkus.

KILLAMANJARO SOUND SYSTEM TRIBUTE TO GARNETT SILK

Killamanjaro Remembers Garnett Silk
.The late Garnett Silk was one of the most promising of the "cultural" dancehall singers of the early '90s, a period when "slackness" was in the ascendant and few of Jamaica's top-flight talents were still bothering to deliver the lyrical messages of spiritual and political uplift that had been reggae's stock in trade for so long. Silk spent some time with the Killamanjaro sound system, singing over new and vintage reggae rhythms, sometimes in collaboration with other singers and deejays. This collection brings together 21 such tracks, most characterized by the slightly rough, improvised feel that often attends sound system performances. Silk's talent, though, was such that even when getting lost in the chord progression of "Marley Medley" or grinding to a ragged halt on "Jaro Ruling," his voice still has the power to captivate. Notable team-ups on this album include a duet with Dennis Brown on "Sing With Me" and "Rule Dem" with Luciano. If you want a taste of real dancehall "inna de yard", this is an album that will stand the test of time.http://rapidshare.com/files/11503833/KillamSilk.rar(192 kbps, ca. 72 MB)

This Mix In Two Parts Is Bangin'
One and Two

The Official Boondocks Mixtape

First a matter of business. When Aaron McGruder introduced “The Boondocks” in 1999 it had one of the most syndicated launches in comic history. A few years later and your best bet at getting to check in on Huey and Riley was at Okayplayer.com. Fast forward 2005 and McGruder kills again when “The Boondocks” cartoon scores the largest premier in Adult Swim history. Since then we haven’t heard much, and rumors of a similar disappearance loomed over the cartoon. Ha, no worries, 15 more episodes this June. Word. Moving on. I can’t tell you how many times I have been watching “The Boondocks” with buddies and someone asks “who is this?” when the theme music roles - and I’m like “motherfucker, don’t you have Google?” But don’t sweat it: It’s Asheru, who’s the host of Dub Floyd’s Hip Hop Docktrine: The Official Boondocks Mixtape – a collection of previously released tracks from well known artists and some Boondocks original content. Blended thoughtfully, Dub Floyd uses relevant samples from the show to blend with thematic elements of songs. A clip of Grandpa giving Riley an asswhooping leads into Ghostface’s “Whip You With A Strap” and a clip of Huey listing the “radical leftist organizations” he founded segues into an ill remix of “Black Panthers” with Dead Prez, Common, and the Last Poets. Dub Floyd stays on point, linking the content of the show to his tracklisting. The songs mix humor, hip hop, reverence, cartoon culture, and social commentary just like McGruder does to the strip and show. Songs like Akir’s “Politricks,” Edo G’s “Wishing,” and the Roots “It Don’t Feel Right” bang unabashed social criticism. Other songs are lighter but stick to the message like Dangerdoom’s “Old School” where Talib raps “I might be buggin but it seem to me that cartoons seem realer than reality TV.” But don’t overlook the fresh talent on the tape. The host Asheru, best known for the theme, does some heavy lifting on tracks with Talib and Black Lincolns. “We break bread as if we have pockets with no bottoms/cant be further from the truth/like words spit in the booth/mixed down packaged and shipped/then marketed to the youth” he spits on “Revolution.” The dude Tough Junkie also gets real creative on “Boondocks Freestyle” – a track parodying black kids moving into the white suburb over a beat crafted from the Boondocks interlude with Uncle Ruckus getting buck on the hook. While most of these tracks are well known bangers, this is truly the soundtrack to McGruder’s important contribution. The clips from the show had me laughing my ass off – like when Riley tells Mr. Dubois to “get off [MLK’s] dick. But the album is heady too. My pencil looked nubbish after trying to keep track of how many times the word “revolution” is dropped on the tape. But that’s “The Boondocks,” a wicked blend of humor and smarts that scares a lot of motherfuckers out there.

Political Soul 1968-1975

40 years ago, on April 4, 1968, Reverend Martin Luther King Jr was killed by a single bullet to the head while on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in downtown Memphis. The Nobel peace prize winner was just 39 years old.In death King became a martyr in the civil rights struggle, but in life he was a charismatic hero battling for racial equality, from the 1956 bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama and non-violent protest marches through to his famous "I have a dream" speech in Washington in 1963."I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.""I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."CD 101. THE ROOTS "RISING DOWN" ALBUM COVER

The Roots - Rising Down

“This drawing is entitled NEGRO RULE. and it pretty much sums up the feeling of the Confederate Union towards the newly freed slaves and the idea that if given power they would reek havoc and chaos on the country.”

From Questlove off Okayplayer

Nina SIMONE

HIGH PRIESTESS OF SOUL

NINA SIMONE
High Priestess of Soul

I didn't notice that i missed posting this gem...
another of my favorites... High Priestess of Soul is a studio album by singer/pianist/songwriter Nina Simone
The album contains popular Simone songs (such as "Don't You Pay Them No Mind") and Church-African-Folk-related songs (such as "Take Me To The Water" and "Come Ye").

Nina Simone was given the title "the High Priestess Of Soul", although she wasn't very fond of the title herself, because it placed a label on her as if she were only a soul artist.

as with many of her albums...creative production minds will have a field day with this one

ENJOY!!!
