Dj Scratch Top 5 DJ's Dead or Alive

There are different facets to history. For several years, AllHipHop has asked rappers to give us their Top 5 Rappers or DJs. Recently, we asked DJ Scratch for his Top 5 DJ's and the conversation turned out to be quite and education. So, educational was it, we got 10 DJs and decided to add it all to our rolling Black History homage. RIP JMJ.

A Tribute To The Great Musical Prophet Yabby You

Musicologists rate Yabby You among the great dub artistes of the 1970s, alongside Osbourne 'King Tubby' Ruddock and Augustus Pablo. His 1975 debut album,Conquering Lion, has been described as a 'true cornerstone of Jamaican roots music'

Yabby You was born in the Waterhouse community of Kingston and began recording in the early 1970s when roots-reggae was taking off internationally. One of his first songs was Conquering Lion which was recorded at Dynamic Sounds with Wailers bassist Aston 'Familyman' Barrett, guitarist Earl 'Chinna' Smith and Wallace on drums.

This Podcast was mixed by DJ Swisherdread
Courtesy of spliffdance

Yabby You recorded profusely. He worked with established musicians, including King Tubby, Sly and Robbie and saxophonist Tommy McCook, a founding member of the legendary Skatalites band.

His King Tubby's Prophesy of Dub and Blazing Horns featuring McCook and trumpeter Bobby Ellis, are considered Yabby You's best work.

He also produced songs by singers Wayne Wade and Michael Prophet, as well as deejays Big Youth, Dillinger, Tappa Zukie and Trinity.

"Cold Heat: Heavy Funk Rarities 1968-1974" series

Part 1 is the heavier and more storming of the 2, while the b-side tempers the barrage just a bit. If you’re familiar with J Rocc, and familiar with the Cold Heat comp, it’s easy enough to connect the dots — but if you’re a neophyte to either camp, you can trust us — this mix is a great splice of hard-hitting funk with pummeling beats! not a my upload the links comes directly from nowagainrecords.com

Very Insightful Information

COPYRIGHT CRIMINALS

Long before people began posting their homemade video mashups on the Web, hip-hop musicians were perfecting the art of
audio montage through sampling. Sampling — or riffing — is as old as music itself, but new technologies developed in
the 1980s and 1990s made it easier to reuse existing sound recordings. Acts like Public Enemy, De La Soul and the
Beastie Boys created complex rhythms, references and nuanced layers of original and appropriated sound. But by the early
1990s, sampling had collided with the law. When recording industry lawyers got involved, what was once called
“borrowed melody” became “copyright infringement.”

COPYRIGHT CRIMINALS examines the creative and commercial value of musical sampling, including the related debates over
artistic expression, copyright law and money. The film showcases many of hip-hop music’s founding figures like Public
Enemy, De La Soul and Digital Underground, as well as emerging artists such as audiovisual remixers Eclectic Method. It
also provides first-person interviews with artists who have been sampled, such as Clyde Stubblefield — James Brown's
drummer and the world's most sampled musician — and commentary by another highly sampled musician, funk legend George
Clinton.

Computers, mobile phones and other interactive technologies are changing our relationships with media, blurring the
line between producer and consumer and radically changing what it means to be creative. As artists find more inventive
ways to insert old influences into new material, COPYRIGHT CRIMINALS poses the question: Can you own a sound?

Tony Touch - Power Cypha Box Set

If you grew up listening to mixtapes in the 90's you know they had a much different flavor than they do today. DJ's were original, they had their own sound, they actually cut and scratched, and they didnt just stack songs in a row and call it a "mix" CD, well maybe DJ Clue did. Way back when, there were only a handfuls of DJ's really doing their thing. Dudes like Tony Touch, Ron G, Kool Kirk, R&R, DJ S&S, and even DJ clue. You couldnt wait to get your hands on their new shit. Nowadays, like the rest of hip hop, the mixtape circuit is over saturated with low budget DJ's making garbage mixes in their basements. Not to say the whole game has gone to shit, but its definitly declined since the golden era. So for all the people who need a reminder what a "real" Mix Cd is. Peep Tony Touch's Power Cypha Box Set. This a 3 volume, 6 disk set, with over 150 MC's rhyming over 200 classic beats. This is one of my favorite hip hop creations ever. This is a true hip hop classic. J. Period + John Legend + The Roots: Wake Up! Radio

:: J.PERIOD, JOHN LEGEND & THE ROOTS RELEASE HISTORY-MAKING MIXTAPE IN HONOR OF GRAMMY-NOMINATED WAKE UP! ALBUM :: ::

:: EPIC REMIX COMPILATION FEATURES JOHN LEGEND, THE ROOTS, RAKIM, COMMON, NNEKA, Q-TIP, PETE ROCK & CL SMOOTH & MORE! ::

New York, NY (February 10 , 2011) – In anticipation of an award-winning evening for John Legend & The Roots’ WAKE UP! album (nominated for 5 Grammys at Sunday’s 2011 Grammy Awards), J.Period & Truelements Music are pleased to present WAKE UP! RADIO – a star-studded mixtape collaboration with Columbia Records’ multi-platinum singing sensation, and the hardest working Late Night band on the planet!

Hosted by The Roots’ own Black Thought, WAKE UP! RADIO pays tribute to the legacy of soul music that paved the way for WAKE UP! and imagines a world where mainstream radio transmits music with a message. Employing an all-star cast of musical contemporaries (including John Legend & The Roots themselves), J.Period dissects, remixes and rebuilds the original recording sessions from the WAKE UP! album in an unprecedented manner, defying the conventional wisdom of what a “mixtape” can be—producing a full-fledged remix album in the process. The result is a treasure trove of powerful new music, produced and remixed exclusively by J.Period for WAKE UP! RADIO.

Scheduled for release today, February 10, 2011 , WAKE UP! RADIO will be offered as aFREE DOWNLOAD in celebration of WAKE UP!’s 5 Grammy nominations, and will also be available as a Limited Edition gift-bag giveaway at The Roots’ Grammy Jam on Saturday, February 12 in Los Angeles, CA—consistently one of the hottest tickets on a weekend overflowing with events. J.Period will also be on hand in Los Angeles to perform at The Grammy Jam, DJing to open up for The Roots’ headlining performance.

Adding to the historic nature of this mixtape release, J.Period will also release an exclusive Digital 12” on Tuesday, February 15, featuring a history-making collaboration between John Legend, Black Thought of The Roots, and hip hop luminary, Rakim. The track, entitled “In the Ghetto (Wake Up!)”, produced by J.Period, is an homage to the Eric B. & Rakim classic “In The Ghetto”—which hearkens back to a time when hip hop and social messages went hand in hand.

Additional featured guests on WAKE UP! RADIO include Common, Q-Tip, Late Night host Jimmy Fallon, Nigerian songstress Nneka, Somali sensation K’NAAN, rising star Blu, Def Poet Mayda Del Valle and more, in addition to never-before-heard music from Black Thought and John Legend. Also look out for J.Period’s history-making “Our Generation” Remix, reuniting hip hop legends Pete Rock & CL Smooth, which was originally released online in November, and is also featured on WAKE UP! RADIO.

“When this project began, I was excited to explore the legacy of soul music behind the WAKE UP! album,” explains J.Period, “but I had no idea of the level of access and creative freedom I would be granted by John Legend & The Roots to tell that story. The result is not only something that traces musical history lines from artists like Marvin Gaye to contemporaries like John Legend—but something that addsto that history: brand new collaborative tracks as if Marvin & John recorded together. It’s simply unprecedented on a mixtape. And I am particularly proud of the fact that all of it speaks to the true power of music to carry a message, and have a positive impact on society, and on people’s lives.”

“These songs [are] so relevant now,” says John Legend. “On most of them, you wouldn’t change a lyric [from the original version.] The passionate election [in 2008] represented change and hope, and awakened a new generation of activists who had never been inspired before. [Fast forward to today:] the intense brew of possibility [and] poverty, optimism and despair, activism and unrest, global connectedness and intractable global conflicts is the reason WAKE UP! exists."

Available today, WAKE UP! RADIO celebrates the powerful impact of John Legend & The Roots’ WAKE UP! album (Columbia Records), and calls on listeners who haven’t heard the Grammy-nominated album to do so now. please fax this petition letter to the United Nations in Geneva, along with your letter of support attached if you agree with fundamental equality, so that Ban Ki-Moon may be morally obligated to do the right thing and recognize us as equal human beings to the pope (joey ratzinger).

Violation of international human rights laws are a serious offense for any political puppet who so choose to serve the people under their oppressive ignorance to equal human rights an universal justice! we come in peace!

Nation of Jah Ras Tafari
34 Grove Road
Linstead, Saint Catherine
1-876-547-8507

Dated this day of January, 2011.

Secretary General,
Ban Ki-Moon

Blessed in the name of the Most High Elect of God, Abba Jahnoy,

We come to you in the name of the Smithsonian?s Absolute Divine Monarch Emperor Haile Selassie I Jah Ras Tafari Makonnen, because his de jure (sovereign) signature authorized the Universal Declaration for Human Rights (UDHR) as a Sacred Holy Covenant for humankind.

We are a private faith-based indigenous individual human rights defender community organization domiciled within the bankrupt commercial jurisdiction of the government of Jamaica Corporation. We are humbly presenting ourselves to this prestigious institution for universal justice (International Amnesty) under international human rights law.

Our desire to serve humanity has been drastically hindered by discriminative practices in the government of Jamaica's policies. According to Scriptures, in these end times of commercial calamities, a Ethiopian human rights prophet from among thy brethrens (of humanity), shall rise to administer the Sacred Holy Covenant - UDHR.

We declare to be that prophet, Negus the Anointed Son, the Mesfin of Harar, who will actualize the basic fundamental indigenous individual human rights to self-determination and manifest the realization of absolute cultural autonomy under private spiritual and international diplomacy.

If another has not risen in Emperor Haile Selassie I's name, to walk in full fellowship with His Imperial Majesty as a private spiritual and international human rights diplomat, and claim their individual indigenous Ethiopian Identity, to be the spiritually (intellectually) reborn Anointed Son of the Emperor, who was given a divine Ethiopian name by Abba Jahnoy himself; then why violate our indigenous individual human rights CLAIMS to the highest standard of living and health.

This display of universal prejudice and international ecclesiastical discrimination is clearly noted, as the Pope, who is Jesus Christ in disguise, walks in full fellowship with the Anointed One seen through Roman spectacles. The Vatican's basic fundamental human rights are internationally secured and religiously protected by their banking and financing industries - I.M.F., World Bank, Federal Reserve, etc!

Even though the Holy Scriptures originate in Africa, all the lost sheep (citizens) blindly follow Jesus (Pope) to their own commercial self-destruction, by accepting the Anointed One seen through Roman spectacles, rather than seek His Imperial Majesty in Spirit (intellect) and T.R.U.T.H.S. - T.he R.eal U.ntold T.estimony of H.aile S.elassie

We call for equal indigenous individual human rights and fundamental commercial freedoms with international immunities. Our Creator created all human beings equally, so therefore, we seek full international equality with the Pope of the Roman Vatican, as he is regarded as the only one benefiting from the covenant?s (UDHR) promise, and who was left as the gatekeeper for Emperor Haile Selassie I's promised return, in his Anointed Son, Negus, the Mesfin of Harar.

The universal doctrine of Christ (the Anointed One) is self-interpreting to those who read and implement the virtuous principles relevant to self-human development, such as overcoming poverty and humiliation like the prophet Job.

A true test of faith is upon us in this 21st century, where the poverty-stricken, humble and meek indigenous individual human rights defenders, delegates of the Nation of Jah Ras Tafari©, are holding on to the promise of the Emperor's covenant (UDHR - private diplomacy), while having tremendous faith in a modern bankrupt commercial world of cultural materialism or intellectual slavery to I.M.F. vanity (Federal Reserve notes - worthless debt instruments - global talisman).

As the rest of the commercial world scramble to re-structure their national debts, the citizens follow suit by scrambling to save their inflationary I.M.F. credit (debt) money that is losing its commercial value rapidly. We, on the other hand, have decided to stand up for our basic indigenous individual human rights to be free from commercial exploitation of every kind under defacto government institutions.

We have been demanding International Amnesty from our host government, according to the Universal human rights charter, and they are blatantly denying our human existence by ignoring our registered correspondences, which are tangible evidence in any commercial human rights tribunal (for crimes against humanity, see I.C.J.).

To obey the UDHR is counted as righteousness in Abba Jahnoy's eyes, but to disobey is a commercial sin (transgressing the Universal human rights charter), and will bring down extreme commercial (contractual) calamities, like unrevealed (unlawful) obligations (taxes) by the I.M.F., here in the 21st century.

Globalization policies are fundamentally owned and corporately controlled by the Vatican's unequal capitalistic institutions, fortunately, fear only yields tacit allegiance (agreement by silence) that can be repented at any time, and Satan (Pope) knows he cannot hold absolute sway over an entire globe of human consciousness.

The spiritual (intellectual) battle of Armageddon (mental battle of good over evil) have been fought and Won for all humanity, as the spiritually (intellectually) reborn Anointed Son, Negus, the Mesfin of Harar, Mo'a Anbessa Atsie, has risen, and must be internationally recognized for promoting and protecting all indigenous individual human rights and fundamental commercial freedoms under Jahnoy's Universal human rights charter (covenant).

We hope and pray that our Almighty Creator, bless you with the spirit (intelligence) of righteous discernment, so you can expeditiously discharge your duties to secure and protect our international indigenous individual human rights and fundamental commercial freedoms privately. As we stand to be the anomaly (private diplomat) that brings back choice, to a democratic commercial world of democracy Commerce.

Diplomatically Yours,

We believe that religion is personal, however, the globalized commercial world of democracy Commerce belongs to all of humanity, not just the Pope and his international Jesuit bankers at the I.M.F. Emancipate us from this inferior type of contractual bondage in Jamaica, so we can bring joy to the commercial world, for the commercial redemption of humanity has come, and the discharges of all the national debts that member nation-states have accumulated by international commercial fraud, will immediately commence upon the Promised Return of Negus the Anointed Son of Abba Jahnoy.

to see new developments in the coming of an intellectually reborn King (private international human rights diplomat - chief ruler unto oneself) who will peacefully depose the pope of rome with the help of the 192 member nation-states under Emperor Haile Selassie I's universal declaration for human rights charter, which is actually a sacred holy covenant between the Emperor, as the Lion of Judah in Ethiopia, and all the rest of humanity. thats why he also carried the title 'protectorate of human beings'!

these are YOUR international INDIVIDUAL human rights and fundamental commercial freedoms to a righteous self determination - the human right to incorporate your own international human rights organization and sit as its universal ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary, just as Garvey did in a more racially motivated era.

the time is ripe for political Exodus, which is a MUST for only in these 30 articles do i an i trust,,,,,,,,,,,,selah!

NEVER PUT ME IN YA BOX IF YA SHIT EATS TAPES

Nas carved some time out of his busy schedule to catch up with us and drop knowledge about his experiences and memories of making and collecting mixtapes. We caught up with Nas at Silvercup Studios, appropriately located in his hometown of Queens, NY. Nas goes deep reminiscing about cassettes, mixtapes and musical influences (Tribe Called Quest, MC Shan, Kurtis Blow & Queen, just to name a few) while reflecting on his early life in the Queensbridge housing projects.

Born Nasir Jones, son of jazz musician Olu Dara, Nas was born and raised in New York City and rose to stardom in 1994 with the release of his now classic debut album, Illmatic. Nas collaborated with Damian Marley on 2010’s Distant Relatives and plans to release his tenth solo album in early 2011.

Hip Hop founder and certified legend DJ Kool Herc has recently been hospitalized and needs some assistance to get through this medical emergency.
